This artifact was truly something with weighted value that will influence my professional future. Classroom rules and expectations are the underlying and initial basis to creating a caring and comfortable classroom environment. Rules are supposed to be few, specific, and imposed. The above artifact supplies a visual for students that is clearly expressed and easy to remember. Promptness applies to arriving to class on time and being accountable for assignments, being prepared covers all student accountability matters such as bringing proper materials to class everyday, being productive accounts for students self-autonomy and expectations of high achievement and success, and being polite entails the golden rule and respecting classmates and faculty. These rules are short, sweet, and to the point.
The research we learned through EDU 410 about rules and expectations was enlightening and highly instructional. Rules are a fundamental necessity in the classroom because they are solely for the safety of yourself and others in the classroom, and to ultimately promote a better learning environment. Without rules the class could be unruly and unmanageable, too many rules would be hard to remember and follow, and too few rules could hold many aspects of classroom management undisclosed and irrationally misinterpreted. The research we had encountered as a class revealed that between 3-5 rules was the basis of an all encompassing and effective expectation policy. The research also concluded that simple, memorizable, and justified rules were also qualities an effective rule policy needs to possess. As a whole the research for rules and expectations resulted in me choosing the above artifact for my career as an educator.
What I have learned from creating this artifact is that the creation of rules is a complex yet extremely crucial component of classroom cohesion and success. The qualities of creating rules are arguably the most important assists I learned in conclusion from this artifact. Examples of this are creating clear, understandable, necessary, and reasonable rules. Also rules must foster independence, allow for student success, and consistent across all settings and with what is trying to be accomplished during class time. These characteristics are extremely valuable and truly support the dynamics of a comfortable and collaborative environment. The rules in the above artifact are ultimately my take on a set of fundamentally crucial rules that encompass all major aspects of a productive classroom.
